BOOKWORMS 'r US

Step right up, Ladies and germs, here are great books to buy! Buy a Book, look like a geek. Impress a chick. Can't read ? Don't sweat it. Just make linear eye movements ( left-to-right... carriage return, line feed... left-to-right.... not to fast... repeat... ) nobody will notice. Everybody is doing the same anyway - I have it from a secure source that nobody learned how to read since about 1932. So buy a tome - Make me rich.
Here a few books I pretend to have read ( I even make fake but realistic comments on their supposed contents ). Each time you buy a book from Amazon.com after following a link from my site I get paid a commission. So buy a book if you love me. And you better love me :))

Recommended books:

1-SHUNGA

People have been asking me about Shunga books forever. Most of mine are out of print stuff I bought from second hand stores, but I got this one in Paris recently, just as it came out, and it's great. Heartily recommended. ( the bit about Paris was just to make you jealous, yes, I mean you, the hick from Tennessee, and it sounded better than saying I got it at the local mall ...)

Shunga: The Erotic Art of Japan

2-Marquis de SADE

These days every idiotic fat slob in leather seems to think he is into "S&M". It would at least be nice if people would learn that Sadism and Masochism have nothing to do with miserable fantasies of a few bored and boring members of the supposedly "sexually liberated" class...in particular, Sade was a much deeper thinker than most would imagine from the sad "movement" ( or "lifestyle" ) that usurped his name. It is not a filosophy for the feable masses.

Here are some selections from the master:

The The 120 Days of Sodom were his masterpiece, lost in his cell at the Bastille upon his turbulent release and only found after his death, Sade spent the rest of his life trying to equal this tour-de-force he had secretly created in his cell...

Juliette is the story of a woman's introduction to the philosophy of "libertinage"...in fact, she is but a vehicle for our own gradual exposure to it's concepts.

Justine, or the misfortunes of virtue is the oposite of the same coin... the reminder of how God "rewards" those who insist on the path of virtue...

And to understand more about the man himself:

Must We Burn Sade ?

Art

On a side note, I don't much care about artsy-fartsy books that mistify art instead of teaching. Art is personal but it is also a craft and it can be taught. The myth that it can't ( just like physics, auto mechanics or plumbing ) is just a convenient myth fostered by incompetent writers and those who would rather teach in classes ( at great expense ) than write a readeable book.
Art is a craft. Learn it.

The Art and Craft of Drawing - Vernon Blake

Drawing Portraits - Douglas Graves

Coloured pencil is a great material both for the begginer and for those who love detailed work. You can combine drawing and painting in a way that no other material allows. Artsy people wouldn't consider it a noble material because they are a bunch of pricks who can't draw anyway and the lack of precision of a brush gives them an excuse to be "free" or "expressive" ( i.e., not precise ) and therefore not showing how incompetent they really are.

Exploring Colored Pencil - by Sandra McFall Angelo
I got this book for my birthday a little while ago. I couldn't believe the stuff you can do with colored pencil. A lovely book, full of practical advice and techniques. Some beautiful illustrations showing the full extent of color pencil artistic range, from the cartoonish to the photorealistic. Color pencil seems able to emulate both Oil and Airbrush ( and everything in between ) in a truly amazing way.

Some other books in my shopping cart:

Painting With Water-Soluble Colored Pencils by Gary Greene

Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step by Ann Kullburg

Colored Pencil for the Serious Beginner by Bet Borgeson

How to Draw Portraits in Colored Pencil from Photographs by Lee Hammond

The Encyclopedia of Colored Pencil Techniques by Judy Martin
(This one seems very promising.)

Basic Colored Pencil Techniques by Bet Borgeson

Creative Colored Pencil :The Step-By-Step Guide & Showcase by Vera Curnow

The Market

Besides being a happy mysoginist, I couldn't really be deemed a proper member of the outcast in this pinko new world (dis)order if I wasn't a capitalist pig. The Market is God, the market is my girl, the market is my lifeblood. Sing with me, "Oh Money thou art my guiding light"...

Here are a couple of books you should have had with you these last few weeks( written in July 2000 ):

James Dines writes on the herd mentality:
How Investors Can Make Money Using Mass Psychology

The bible of technical analysis, by John Murphy:
Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets : A Comprehensive Guide to Trading Methods and Applications

And for something completely different:

Ancient Siege Warfare-Paul Kern
